MTathome.com Course Instructions For Students
Contents of Page:
Before even reading how to install your software and use the material it is important to know there are 2 ways to take your course depending on your prior experience and budget!

1. If you have NO prior medical terminology exp. then we recommend doing the textbook in Full before even starting the Transcription part of the course. This would mean that you would not need the Digital Transcriber until you were done with the text book as well as any of the software included in the course EXCEPT FOR THE CD IN THE BACK OF THE TEXTBOOK. You WILL NEED this CD as it has your chapter quiz for each chapter you will take on your computer with the CD in the CDRom when you take each test.

Once you finish the book then you will Load the Software included in the course and start the transcription part of the course. It is important to note that the CD MT107 has your study guide located on the INDEX.HTML file. The study guide will tell you what order to do the dictations in. If you do the textbook first in complete then you would ignore the "start after chapter 4" and just do in the order they are shown. You will also need to access all links on the Index.html page and study guide page as you will need the Progress Log to fill out as you go along.

2. If you DO have prior Exp. such as medical terminology, R.N. (Nurse), Medical Assistant, etc. then you would want to start the transcription after chapter 4 in your book and follow along with the textbook and the dictation/transcription on the cd MT107. Access the Index.html file as mentioned above and follow the guide.

You will need to order your Digital Transcriber soon if you are going to do both together.

NOTE: If for any reason your budget does not allow you to get the Digital Transcriber at this time and you DO have prior exp. you can choose to do the 1st choice of doing the textbook in full first before moving on to the transcription part of the course.

Please see information below and links to the Right of this page. Thank you, MTatHome Staff

MT will then appear in the red box. Click on it to highlight it. That makes it the active glossary. It has nearly everything you will need. When you get time, study the help files in the Instant Text. It has a lot of nice features.

How To Use Your Course Material:

    FLASHCARDS:

It is very important to go out and buy either blank index cards or plain business cards that you can separate to individual ones. ( Like ones you would print on a computer). You will use these through out your study of the text book.

You will also want to purchase the metal rings that you can use to hold the index cards / business cards together. Each study card you create will need to have a hole punched in the corner and placed onto the ring so that it can be flipped over the ring like flash cards to study with.

We recommend to create 1 ring for each chapter or two so that the ring does not get too full.

The way you create the study cards is to write down each medical term that you come across through out your chapters. There will be suffixes and prefixes. On one side write the suffix, prefix, and the terminology word that the suffix and prefix create. You will then write the meaning of the suffix, prefix and the terminology word on the back of the card. Once you have done that you will want to place it on a ring that you will add the next card to. When you have your term flash cards for the chapter you are working on you will want to study them. It also helps to have someone present the cards to you like flash cards so you can see what terms you need to work on.

The key is to learn the suffix and prefix because if you know these then you will be able to break down most medical terms.

    WRITE IN CHAPTER REVIEWS:

After each chapter you will find chapter several different sections that you can write in the answers. You can do this one of 2 ways. You can write the answers in the book with a pencil (so that you can erase and redo if you need to study more).

    or

You can write your answers on a piece of notebook paper or spiral so that you can redo the reviews if you feel you need to study more.

Some of the questions / reviews will have a section that you can check your answers. Please do NOT look at the answer keys until you have completed the questions. You will only be cheating your self if you look before doing.

Here are the type of question / reviews you will see at the end of each chapter:

Combining Forms - Here the text book will show you a combining form, meaning and a medical term. Then you will have a blank to write in the correct meaning of the medical term.

Suffixes- The text book shows you a suffix, meaning, and a medical term. You will need to write the correct meaning in the blank provided next to the Terminology.

Prefixes- The text book shows you a prefix, meaning, and a medical term. You will need to write the correct meaning in the blank provided next to the Terminology.

Practical Applications- Here you will be given 2 columns. One column will have a meaning of a medical term and the other column will have a medical term that belongs to one of the meanings. Each column is either numbered or listed with a letter next to it. You will want to match the terms to the meanings.

Exercises - There are a variety of exercises with in this section. They will consist of the following type exercises: ( NOTE: Every chapter may not have the exact exercises that are listed below.
