Information about our Online Vocational Career
School & Medical Transcription Course:
Our medical transcription school offers medical transcription courses that
are self-paced and can be done at home with online access.
We combine
textbooks, CDs, and online access to our student area to give you the best medical transcription
training possible.
We specialize only in medical transcription, billing and coding. The reason for this is to
give our students 100% of the proper career training they need.
You may be surprised by
the extensive amount of information on our website. We provide all of this information because we want
all future MTs to be well informed about the career and what type of medical transcription training they will
need; regardless of which medical transcription school they decide to go through.
Our school trains by the AHDI standards for medical
transcription. Medical Transcription Editing is
included in our training.
Even though the training course is self-paced and done from your home, all students
receive personal attention anytime they have a question!
We feel it is important to have student
advisors available to answer questions that students may have throughout their training. This is why our
medical transcription school is open twelve hours a
day, six days a week.
Our perspective is different from that of most medical
transcription schools, and we carefully place a lot of emphasis on developing strong transcription skills. We
prepare our students for getting hired in their first medical
transcription job.
MTatHome also works with
employers to focus on the business side of medical transcription.
Most doctors switched from the tape method to the
digital dictation over the past ten years which the job opportunities for the medical transcriptionist that
wants to work from home.
The reason for this is because the digital audio files
can be transferred through a secure server. This allows MTs to work for a doctor, hospital or medical
transcription service company that may be hundreds of miles away.
For example, you can live in California and work from
home for a doctor, who is located in Florida. This was impossible when doctors used tapes because MTs had to be
able to pick up and drop off the tapes and transcribed reports.
Is the Medical Transcription Career field
right for you?
There are many reasons you want to make a career change.
These reasons may include extended hours at the office. Long distance commutes to and from work, or
office politics. These can all lead to job burnout. You may just want to earn more money, or work at home
to raise your children instead of being gone for eight to ten hours a
day.
Regardless of your reasons are for considering a career
change, medical has much to offer. Working as an MT can
be very rewarding. However; you do need to have an interest in the medical field to be
successful.
The MTs that are successful are usually well-organized and
self-sufficient. They do not require someone looking over their shoulder telling them when to get the work done
or how to do it.
Successful MTs also need to have the ability to do research. This
research will include looking up medical terms, drug names, and any other related information pertaining to the
dictation that the MT is transcribing. A lot of this research can be done through the use of the Internet and
other types of research can be done through having the correct reference books on
hand.
The Medical transcriptionist is
responsible for accurately transcribing medical reports, including chart notes, history and physical
examinations, consultation letters, operative reports, emergency-room reports, diagnostic reports, and
discharge summaries.
"Accuracy" is not necessarily
limited to the careful transcription of dictations.
Accuracy frequently requires transcription of what the physician meant to say, rather than what was actually
dictated. This is why an MT needs to know more than just medical terminology.
It is important to know report formats, how to listen to doctor dictations and to be
able to tell what is being said when they are talking fast, slow, mumbling, or with an accent. This is
one of the main reasons medical transcription services are eager to hire new MTs that received proper
training. It is also important that MTs are trained with authentic digital
dictations.
Very few doctors use the tape transcription method anymore;
most are using the digital transcription method.
As you read through our website, you will learn that the earnings and
benefits are excellent in the medical transcription career field. The hours are great, and the demand is
high.
You can
take a medical transcription career as far as you want to!
Some
medical transcriptionist will start their own business and hire other MTs to work under
them.
Read this article on our MT News Blog about a woman that started out
working at home as an MT and over the years created a large and successful
business.
She now has
over 300 medical transcriptionist that work from home for her company.
How small or large
you want your medical transcription career is up to you. Some MTs prefer to just work for one doctor and
others may want to expand their MT services to several doctors and hire other MTs to work under them. The
choice is up to you.
What is a digital foot
pedal?
The
digital foot pedal (transcriber) is what an MT will use to fast forward, play, and rewind the medical
dictations. This allows you to have your hands free to transcribe the reports. Even though it is rare, some
doctors do still use the older tape method to record their audio dictations. However, most doctors will use the
digital transcription method.
More jobs are opening up for
the medical transcriptionist (MT) because they do not have to live within a certain radius to get and drop-off
the dictations and finalized reports. In today’s world, a medical transcriptionist can live in California and
work for a doctor, who is based out of Maryland, Florida or any other state. This has created many job
opportunities for new MTs.
Does the economy have you
concerned?
Consider a career in the healthcare
field!
Times are tough in today's economy. People are losing their jobs. Others worry
about how the economy will affect their lives. You may even know of someone that after working years for a
company, they lost their job.
There are a lot of different types of careers affected by the
economy. Both the education and healthcare career fields seem to be less affected by bad economic
times.
The Healthcare field continues to prosper, even in a falling
economy. Regardless of the economy, people need to go see the doctor. Babies are born every day. X-rays
are taken each day and records of these events must be kept. These do not stop because of the
economy.
Health insurance, Medicare, supplemental insurance, etc.,
pays a majority of the medical bills and requires clear and detailed patient records.
Newspaper articles and TV News reporters state, “even in the
falling economy, jobs are to be found in the healthcare field."
In any economy, you want to position yourself in a growing
career field.
This is the best time to start your training in the Medical
Transcription field.

US
Department of Labor says that the jobs in the Healthcare Career Fields will have
strong growth over the next several years.
"Healthcare will generate 3.2 million new wage and
salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely
in response to rapid growth in the elderly population. Ten of the twenty
fastest growing occupations are related to healthcare."
